Subnautica 2 PS5 Release Date: When Is It Coming to PlayStation?
Subnautica 2 is not coming to PS5 during Early Access â PlayStation has no early access program, so the PS5 version is expected with the 1.0 full release, realistically around 2028-2029. Right now the game is only on PC and Xbox Series X|S.

Is Subnautica 2 on PS5 Right Now?
No. Subnautica 2 launched into Early Access on May 14, 2026 on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store / Game Pass PC) and on Xbox Series X|S through the Game Preview program. PlayStation 5 was not part of the launch, and Unknown Worlds has not announced a PS5 Early Access date â because one cannot exist. For the full platform picture, see our Subnautica 2 Release Date guide.
| Platform | Status | Details |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Steam / Epic) | Available | Full Early Access version, updated with every patch. |
| PC (Game Pass) | Available | Included with Game Pass PC via the Microsoft Store. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Available | Playable through the Xbox Game Preview program. |
| PlayStation 5 | Not Yet | Expected at the 1.0 full release â no Early Access path exists on PlayStation. |
Why There Is No PS5 Early Access Version
The reason is structural, not a snub: PlayStation has no Early Access or Game Preview program. Steam and Epic let developers sell work-in-progress games openly, and Xbox runs Game Preview specifically for unfinished titles. The PlayStation Store has no equivalent category â games must be finished, certified, and rated as complete products before they can be sold.
Unknown Worlds used the exact same playbook with the original Subnautica: it spent years in PC Early Access and only reached consoles at full release. Subnautica 2 is following that pattern, with Xbox added this time thanks to Game Preview.
You are not missing a broken version â you are waiting for the finished one. The 1.0 launch will include all ten planned story chapters (Early Access started with just one), plus every roadmap feature added along the way.
Expected PS5 Release Date
Unknown Worlds has stated that Early Access is expected to last 2-3 years from the May 14, 2026 launch. That math puts the 1.0 full release â and with it the expected PS5 debut â somewhere in 2028 to 2029. Treat that window as an estimate: no official PS5 date, or even a formal PS5 announcement, exists yet.
Two things are confirmed about the eventual full release:
- The price increases after 1.0, so Early Access buyers on PC/Xbox lock in the cheaper price.
- The story grows from 1 chapter to 10 planned chapters by full release, so PS5 players will get a far bigger game than Early Access players started with.
The fastest way to gauge how close 1.0 (and PS5) is getting is the update cadence. Follow the EA 1.1 update and EA 1.2 co-op update pages, plus the full roadmap on our homepage.
